The European East-West Academy for Culture and the Media and the network imaginary friends are calling for a workshop on transmedia storytelling in Berlin, October 9-12, 2012
Open to artists of all fields, storytellers, gamers etc. from Eastern and Western Europe
Why Transmedia Storytelling?
More and more people create individual reality spaces from multiple platforms collecting various kinds of information. Storytelling nowadays no longer functions linearly through only one medium (a book, a movie, a song), but expands into several platforms. The story elements can be accessed individually or in a cumulative manner. Stories are told in the material as well as in the digital world. They can begin in a book and then develop their storylines simultaneously on websites, facebook or twitter, and continue in a movie, a cartoon or a photo series and finally materialize as an artistic guerilla action in the streets. Experiencer can go through a good story within one platform, but the experience gets much more intensive following the story across diverse media.
The European East-West Academy for Culture and The Media and the network imaginary friends want to explore the possibilities of transmedia storytelling with artists from different fields from Eastern and Western Europe.
Target Group
We are looking for participants of all cultural and artistic fields who want to be part of a team which creates a story that invokes various skills. We invite people from Western and Eastern Europe to work together and to represent the European idea beyond all economic and financial discussions.
Workshop Content
The workshop will provide you with information on how to produce a transmedia storytelling project such as structure and platform options; how to construct a transmedial story without getting lost in the endless universe of possibilities and to implement game structures; and how to optimize interdisciplinary collaboration. You will experiment with all these elements by creating your own transmedial stories. The schedule includes short lectures and discussions with experts as well as team work in small interdisciplinary groups.
The ideas of each team will be presented in a final session in front of an audience consisting of professionals from diverse institutions and foundations.
Speakers
Subject-specific experts will inform and update participants on the current state of transmedia storytelling and partially accompany the teams as mentors. The list of experts will be published soon.
